Alexis Robin, also known as The Wine Host was born with wine in is his blood, in Anglet, South West France. Whilst in New Zealand to improve his English Alexis fell in love with this beautiful country, exquisite wine it has to offer and most importantly, his Kiwi wife to be. Alexis currently works at Mt Difficulty Vineyard Cellar Door and Restaurant in Bannockburn, Central Otago. He has experience as a wine operator, wine educator and wine entertainer and host in both New Zealand and Australia. He founded both ‘Les Passionnés Du Vin’ in Wellington, ‘Word of Wine’ in Melbourne and the ‘Central Otago Wine Club’ in Clyde.

Alexis’ passion is to develop Kiwis’ awareness of their local wine and unique terroir (combination of soil, climate and human talent) enabling them to become ambassadors of their local vineyards. Alexis believes wine is an art and the winemakers and viticulturists are the artists behind the wine. Terroir is the key ingredient when making great wine and a great wine is a wine that correctly expresses its terroir. A talented wine maker is one who has the ability to capture this!

Alexis loves people here, the way of life and obviously the wine!

SERVICES

Alexis specialises in wine appreciation classes. He tailors public and private events to best meet the needs of his customers. The purpose of his wine appreciation classes is to educate his guests through the discovery of new wines by focusing on boutique vineyards. Sophisticated production, talented winemakers, organic and bio-dynamic viticulture and unique grapes are some attributes of Alexis’ philosophy. During wine appreciation classes Alexis’ customers learn about the wine from the ground up. They are taught wine etiquette, how to best pair food with complementary wine as well as how to cellar the wine. These events take place in a relaxed and social atmosphere where guests are encouraged to interact, develop their senses, wine etiquette and wine vocabulary.

Alexis is able to cater private events such as a wine appreciation class or tasting in home for your family and friends, a corporate function, or other special event.

Hi Alexis, our Wellington guests left today and as they were going we all agreed that the Wednesday night wine event was the best tasting we have ever attended, and between us we have been to more than a few !!! Thank you so much for the company, the friendly learning, the humour and the informality.”

Santé!
