This trip encompasses; the “Original” Otago Central Rail Trail, the spectacular Roxburgh Gorge and the riverside Clutha Gold. Three totally different environments.
Typical 7 day Tour (accommodation included below is Superior)
Pre ride – 2pm collection by us from Queenstown – informative tour back to Clyde, free use of bikes overnight.
Then begin your trip;
Day 1– 33kms Clyde to Lake Roxburgh Village via river track and the spectacular Roxburgh Gorge. (overnight Lake Roxburgh Lodge)
Day 2– 29kms Lake Roxburgh Village to Millers Flat via Roxburgh town and Pinders Pond. (overnight The Quince Boutique BnB)
Day 3– 44kms Millers Flat to Lawrence via Horseshoe Bend bridge and the Lonely Graves. Returned to Clyde for the evening. (overnight Dunstan House)
Day 4– 44kms Clyde to Omakau / Ophir via river track and Chatto Creek (overnight Tigerhill Lodge)
Day 5 – 35.5kms Ophir / Omakau to Wedderburn – enjoy the stunning Poolburn Gorge (maybe curling late afternoon) (overnight Wedderburn Lodge and Cottages)
Day 6 – 45kms Wedderburn to Hyde via Rural Art Deco, Ranfurly, then the upper Taieri Gorge enjoy another tunnel and viaduct. (Overnight Hyde Lodge and Cottages)
Day 7– 27.5kms Hyde to Middlemarch, pass the site of one of NZ’s worst train disasters, return to Clyde to further your journeys or catch the shuttle to Dunedin airport or city
